FAQ - Questions and answers about the BMW GPS + USB Interface

My BMW charger reports “Error”

BMW Motorrad has generally communicated a usage restriction for older BMW chargers. This states that charging via the on-board socket is not possible if accessories are installed on the SA accessory plug. According to BMW Motorrad, this restriction no longer applies to motorcycles produced from 2009 onwards. Due to our many years of experience with this device and the current BMW motorcycle charger, we only recommend the current model or our Motorcycle battery charger MID010000 You cannot cause any damage by connecting your old charger. In the vast majority of cases, the charger will respond with the "Error" mode. Charging directly from the battery is also possible at any time with older BMW chargers.

My navigation device does not switch off after turning off the ignition

In some vehicles, it may happen that the control units do not switch off (go to sleep) after the charging process has been completed via the on-board socket and the charger has been removed. To be on the safe side, the ignition of the machine should be switched on briefly once after removing the charger to activate the "sleep process".

What is the difference between the cheaper connection cables from other suppliers and the original BMW connection cable (Cartool connector)

The original BMW connection cable with the Cartool plug is already installed in the BMW GPS + USB Interface. The BMW GPS + USB Interface also has a relay circuit that eliminates the gradual discharge of the battery. The versions from other manufacturers correspond to the original BMW connection cable, which is not intended for accessory navigation devices. The navigation devices are properly supplied with power, but discharge the battery when the ignition is switched off. The Navi Interface prevents this!

Can I connect additional headlights to the SZ connector using the interface?

No. The BMW Motorrad SA accessory port is not designed for the operation of fog lights.
